What We do
Sharp­Brains is an inde­pen­dent mar­ket research firm and think tank cov­er­ing the emerg­ing brain fit­ness mar­ket. In 2009, the firm released its flag­ship report The State of the Brain Fit­ness Soft­ware Mar­ket 2009, for decision-makers, and the con­sumer guide The Sharp­Brains Guide to Brain Fit­ness, for every­one with a brain. In Jan­u­ary 2010 we pro­duced the first global and vir­tual Sharp­Brains Sum­mit, a 3-day online con­fer­ence where 250+ pro­fes­sion­als in 16 coun­tries dis­cussed the state of the research, tech­nol­ogy and market.

SharpBrains.com, the firm’s edu­ca­tional blog and web­site, is a mem­ber of Sci­en­tific Amer­i­can Part­ner Network.

Our Found­ing Team
Alvaro Fer­nan­dez is Sharp­Brains’ co-founder and Chief Exec­u­tive Offi­cer. He has been quoted by The New York Times, CNN, Reuters, and Asso­ci­ated Press, among oth­ers. Alvaro is a mem­ber of the Global Agenda Coun­cils ini­tia­tive run by the World Eco­nomic Forum, and recently wrote the acclaimed arti­cles Prepar­ing Soci­ety for the Cog­ni­tive Age, for Fron­tiers in Neu­ro­science, and Why We Need to Retool Use It or Lose It, for the Jour­nal of Active Aging. He started his career at McK­in­sey & Com­pany and led the launch and turn­around of sev­eral pub­lish­ing and edu­ca­tion com­pa­nies in the US and Europe, includ­ing Ber­tels­mann On Line, Docent, Inc, and Edu­soft, a unit of Houghton Mif­flin. Alvaro has an MBA and MA in Edu­ca­tion from Stan­ford Uni­ver­sity, and enjoys teach­ing The Sci­ence of Brain Health at SFSU and UC-Berkeley Osher Life­long Learn­ing Insti­tute. Dr. Elkhonon Gold­berg is Sharp­Brains’ co-founder and Chief Sci­en­tific Advi­sor. He leads Sharp­Brains Sci­en­tific Advi­sory Board. Dr. Gold­berg is an author, sci­en­tist, edu­ca­tor and clin­i­cian, inter­na­tion­ally renowned for his clin­i­cal work, research, writ­ings and teach­ing in neu­ropsy­chol­ogy and cog­ni­tive neu­ro­science. He is a Clin­i­cal Pro­fes­sor of Neu­rol­ogy at New York Uni­ver­sity School of Med­i­cine, and Diplo­mate of The Amer­i­can Board of Pro­fes­sional Psy­chol­ogy in Clin­i­cal Neu­ropsy­chol­ogy. A stu­dent and close asso­ciate of the great neu­ropsy­chol­o­gist Alexan­der Luria, Dr. Gold­berg has con­tin­ued to advance Luria’s sci­en­tific and clin­i­cal tra­di­tion, and writ­ten pop­u­lar sci­ence books such as The Exec­u­tive Brain: Frontal Lobes and The Civ­i­lized Mind and The Wis­dom Para­dox: How Your Mind Can Grow Stronger As Your Brain Grows Older.
